Christmas was great, I couldn't sleep for a week I was so excited. Being a parent creating the magic is amazing! After the magic was set up Joel and I cuddled in bed wagering if Lydia would remember that it was Christmas when she woke. I went for yes, Joel for no. By far the longest night of the week, I kept listening for sounds in her room, if she was not up by 7 I would have to intervene. 6:30, I hear stirrings, quietly I go into her room to make sure she is warm and was greeted by wide open eyes. Lydi, are you awake? DID SANTA CLAUS COME?! I think so, lets go wake up dad and we can go check. We both run into the room and jump on the bed. Joel said it's too early, I say- 3:00 would have been too early, this is perfect. I get the camera ready and wait downstairs to see the sweetest look of surprise and wonder on her face. I love this! We had a wonderful Christmas morning, Orange rolls for brunch. And an elegant Christmas dinner with sparkling grape juice in goblets for all.
Tonight I took the 2nd dose of my new medication- Humira. Actually maybe my fifth and sixth dose. The first series two weeks ago was 4 injections, today I took 2 more and for the next year or more, I will take one injection every 2 weeks. Back in April when I wasn't doing well my doctor had suggested I start another medicine in the same class of TNF blockers called Remicade.
(HUMIRA is part of a class of medications called TNF (tumor necrosis factor) blockers. These medications block TNF, a protein in your body that can cause inflammation. HUMIRA blocks excess TNF-α in your body which helps reduce the inflammation that too much TNF-α can cause.)
Every time I thought and prayed about taking Remicade (an infusion done in a physician's office that takes several hours, with chemo-like reactions after wards) I had an extremely panicky feeling and knew, with out a doubt, that if I took that drug I would die. So obviously I didn't take it, but my disease has progressed to the point that no other medications are working for me any more. Surgery is an extremely last resort, like very last resort so we revisited the TNF blockers. This time I felt peace, not about Remicade, but about Humira.
I finally feel like I might have come upon the miracle drug for my Crohn's Disease. The medicine took 2 weeks to come into the pharmacy, a very LONG 2 weeks that meant I was getting more and more ill. I was really concerned that I was in such a flare that I wouldn't come off of it right away. But the day after my 4 injections, I felt a difference. And the last two weeks have been an improvement, so much so that I was counting down the days until I could inject again even knowing how painful it was going to be. The injection is the most painful injection I have ever had, think of a dull blade slicing you very slowly.
I am so excited for this new stage that I feel our family is stepping into. I feel the real Bonnie emerging. I feel like I have been hiding within myself trying to deal with the daily pain, fatigue and other battles that Crohn's survivors have to deal with on a regular basis. Only rarely did I feel myself come out, on the days that I felt good could I feel the joy in my soul pushing out the walls of our home. Our home is so much happier when I am able to just be me. Joel reassures me constantly that I am a good mom, and that my excitement over everything that I do adds so much to our home. But, knowing who I really am inside and how much of that is hidden by the cloak of my disease often causes me guilt of how much more I could give to my family, but what I am unable to do.
I get accused by everyone who knows me that I hide my pain to much, that I need to let them know what is going on, but that is not who I am. I am grateful to be healthy enough to not be bedridden, and not be on the cursed TPN anymore. If there is anything that has been hiding, it is the real me who LOVES life, loves to have fun, loves to be outside, or anywhere really for hours at a time. Someone who has energy for more that 2 hours at a time. Someone who loves to be spontaneous and not have to plan and prepare for everything.
So this is the "Christmas Eve" for me, I am the child, and Heavenly Father is the loving parent that knows what is in store for his daughter. He constantly gives me everything. There is no word to describe the gratitude I feel for that.

A True Man
What do you do where there is no power in your house? Go outside and play in the snow!! I am so glad I married a TRUE MAN that will build a snowman with his family, play little people on the floor with his daughter, and encourages me have alone time. I really like him!
One day...
Instead of here :o)
We love the snow, it is so much fun! We even had fun the first day and night that we didn't have power. I am so glad that they restored it a whole 5 DAYS earlier than they estimated..... Yeah....
Joel's parents came to visit last week, we LOVED having them here! It was so sad to see them go, I would have loved to have them stay longer!
Joel's parents are the sweetest people you will ever meet. They have so many amazing qualities, I am so lucky to be a part of their family! We are counting down the time until we can be close to family again :o)

too much kissing!!
Arrg!! Mommy! You kiss me TOO much! That one hurt me. Oh I'm sorry :o)! Don't you like kisses?
I don't, they hurt, hurt, hurt. Do you like soft kisses? Uh-huh. Can I give you a soft kiss? No you can't, I'm sick, sick, sick. You can kiss me on my cheek, not on my mouth. Thank you, did that feel good? no, I have an owie on my cheek. Don't kiss me anymore.
The cutest part is that she is saying this so sweetly so that denying my love doesn't hurt my feelings. Poor thing, she knows I will just kiss her anyway!

Cuddling in Bed
I know I've already posted this picture, but so cute!!
A couple nights ago Lydia was in bed trying to go to sleep but I could tell something was bothering her. I climbed into bed with her and she cuddled up to my chest.
Mommy, I'm so lonely.
You're lonely honey? Why?
I just want my sisters to come down from Heaven. When they come they will say, Oh Lydia I missed you so much!! And I will make them smile.
Your sisters? Are they coming soon?
In a little bit, I just miss them so much. And my brothers, I miss my brothers. But my sisters are coming soon.
It was so cute and broke my heart just a little bit. But who knows, maybe she is aware of a lot more that I am. Probably, since she was the last one to be with her siblings, she might have a better memory right now :o)
I just think it is so cute that she came up with this all on her own!

Bee Sting...
Poor thing... It was a HORRIBLE day! We found a wounded wasp in our house and so I think (and the vet affirmed) that is what caused this. The swelling went down quite a bit in these pictures. On Sunday his left eye was swollen almost completely and his muzzle was HUGE. He was allergic to the Epi-shot that they gave him and had to be hospitalized so they could make sure he didn't get seriously sick. It was so scary, I was on the verge of tears all day. It kills me that he can't talk to let me know, hey a wasp just attacked me! But now he is almost back to normal so that we can celebrate his 4th birthday!
I never knew before the joys that come from making your own bread. I couldn't get the yeast right, ever, so my breads were always heavy and flat. Once I figured it out, I am hooked!
The aroma, the taste, the versatility of it. Soup bowls, Kaiser rolls, Amish rolls, Graham Flour bread, Cinnamon raisen bread and on and on and on. I love it. Last night we had homemade meatballs on homemade Kaiser rolls- yum!

Teddy Bear Tea Party!
I was very blessed to be able to attend the Louisville LDS Temple this past Saturday, all by myself. I left mid-morning on Saturday and after an almost 4 hour drive I arrived to do a session by myself, then I drove back by myself. I needed the break and time alone, and was blessed with many wonderful inspirations, one of which I want to share. I felt that as a mom I needed to be more Present. I was getting in the habit of multi-tasking with Lydia, which of course has to happen sometimes, but how long do we get to have our little ones be little? So now I remind myself to be *Present*. When I play Little People with Lydia, I really play for a long time. When I have a task that needs to be done, I find a way to involve her so that we end up playing. This is how Lydia had her tea party, I had to fold laundry and so set up the laundry basket for her to play next to me, we had so much fun that the laundry is still piled up on the couch! I'm so grateful for this memory now. Laundry will always be there to be folded, counters will always need to be wiped, bills need to be paid, work needs to be done, there will always be things that need to be completed. But I am slowing down and being present each moment with my Lydia! Plus, seriously, look at how cute she is!! Who could resist just playing with her all day?!
Lydia served hot cocoa and pizza to her adorable guests: Honey Bear, Biggest Bear and Princess Bear.

Fall activities
Our first attempt at carving pumpkins as a family (ever! Joel and I have never done this!!)
There is no need to rake our leaves since there is a huge grove of trees beyond our house, and no neighbors to complain if they are left on the ground. But raking leaves so that your two year old can learn the joy of jumping, throwing and laying in leaves is a different thing all together!

Pumpkin Festival
I have been wanting to go to this festival since we moved here 2 1/2 years ago. I was a little disappointed since it was just like every other festival that I have ever been to, just pumpkin themed. Lydia had a lot of fun though and loved that she was 'in charge' and could choose where we walked and what we looked at. We ended the day with a corndog and pumpkin fudge!
